Website ux vs website ui

Website ux vs website ui

UX and UI mobile and web design is vital to consider when approaching your businesses website. The UX User Experience best practices and UI User Interface design principles can vary depending on the type of app or website being developed, but there are some basics that pretty much apply to every type of software development project.

UX is all about putting the user first when it comes to designing your mobile or web app. First, you must make the navigation intuitive, especially on mobile apps. Users must be able to immediately identify how to navigate through the site, which is achieved by using recognizable design themes and icons which appear as something that represents their function, such as a house for the home button.

A user on a mobile phone will likely want a streamlined experience where just the most important items are immediately displayed, whereas a desktop user has more screen space, is likely sitting comfortably at a desk, and thus can navigate through more options and content.

Speed and feedback are two more UI design principles which developers should incorporate into the app design. Slow sites put users off, while feedback such as sounds upon a click in the UI or a small animation to signal an action has been successful is known to create a positive UX.

UI vs UX vs Graphic Designer

UI vs UX vs Graphic Designer

In the early days of the internet, building a website was fairly easy — create some content, slap it in a website builder template, publish, and move on. However, in a digital world increasingly dominated by search engine optimization tactics designed to make a site competitive and sophisticated technology that supports an easy-to-use and effective interface, the pressure to go above and beyond is greater than ever before. A great website effectively communicates in a user-friendly way — and cutting corners on important facets of web design such as user experience and user interface strangles substantial growth. Creating a strong website is a little like putting together a jigsaw puzzle: there may be plenty of ways to arrange each square, but only doing things the right way will yield a beautiful end result. This is what you need to know about UX, UI, the differences between these development concepts, and how a perfect balance between the two can result in the ideal website for your organization. The design terms UX and UI are often used interchangeably, even by pros in the field. However, confusing or misunderstanding the two can handicap your entire website development process and create future obstacles.

UI in web design is how users interact with your product. Is it a window and people click things? Do they talk to an AI.

UX and UI design are similar and are often used interchangeably. In actuality, these two terms have completely different meanings and relay different activities. These two professions have essentially been around for years, but have only recently been associated with the tech industry, prompting the renaming to UI and UX Designer. Both of these elements are essential when it comes to a digital product, but the roles are very different. They refer to different aspects of both the product development as well as the actual design process. UX can be applied to anything in life that creates an experience. Whether that is a website, a mobile application, a theme park, or even a tea strainer. UX does not need to necessarily relate to something in the graphic design world. When it comes to a digital product or service, UX relates to how the web page, mobile application, or software makes a user feel. It might include facilitating website check out process to go smoothly, or making an application easier to use in general.

Ever since the tech boom, programmers have witness a tremendous shift of focus on how our website audiences interact and consume web content.

Sorry, something went wrong. Suppose I have a tab whose content is php conditionally generated. How can one make the tab disappear conditionally when such case occurs? I understood that the filter above works globally not on a per-product basis. When I try to use this code to remove the additional information tab my footer gets messed up and becomes a small box down the center of my page. Same thing happens when I uncheck the box in the Attributes Visible on Page option. How can I fix?

Did you find a way to solve it? I guess woocommerce is using some float in the css. I added an overflow: hidden on my main container. Worked beautifully.

I had the same issue with content below moving up. I justed added a clearfix via css, and problem solved. Thanks so much for sharing this! Know this is a late comment. Put the code into theme functions, and site went down. Tried variations, also smashes the database. Tried the css solution but didn't work. The entire site is in Danish language, except for the Woocommerce 'Read more' after search and 'Additional Information' tab.

Think the theme is the issue. Hi, this works as a charm for desktop, but on mobile I still have Description tab visible.

Do I need to edit code a bit? I know nothing on coding.. It is said on Woocommerce doc that it will crash when the products do not have additional info. If you try to apply a change to that tab and if the product does not have weight, dimensions or attribute, you will get an error message similar to :. Hi, thanks this works beautifully. One question though, is there any way to modify this code to only remove tabs on mobile devices?

How to fix inline small javascript in wordpress

How to fix inline small javascript in wordpress

Improving a site's efficiency is often an overlooked practice. A good example of software ripe for some optimization work is WordPress.

A Web cache uses temporary storage or caching of HTML pages, images, style sheets, JavaScript, and many others to reduce the load on the server. A web cache serves static files instead of slower dynamic files to users and this speeds up the delivery of data considerably. Using caching properly can have the biggest positive effect on the response time of your site. Caching is used by computers, your ISP, your web server and your browser.

If you request the page an hour later the caching software checks to see what has changed. If the images remain the same then the original images are displayed again, removing the need to download a second time. Perhaps the content has changed slightly with some updates news.

W3 Total Cache does the job of storing data from previous requests to prevent re-downloading of the same data for further requests. It also compresses elements of your page and creates static files before they are sent to the browser, reducing the overall page size and increasing the speed of WordPress. Before installing and configuring W3 Total Cache you should test your site using GTmetrix page speed tool to see what the current performance report for your website indicates.

If it scores an A on PageSpeed then the improvements will be incremental but we can still look at other improvements. To begin, make sure that you're not running any other caching software as this will cause conflicts. Hovering on this a second menu with your mouse produces a pop up showing several different configuration options for this plugin. For most needs, there are just a few key areas that we need to look at.

Cache preload is a cache method that tells the system to load all post, page, category, and main pages periodically. This improves page load speed in the future when visitors actually view the URLs. The Purge Policy:Page Cache settings are by default generally set to optimum for most sites.

The default settings tell the Page Cache to purge if the front, post, and blog pages are changed. The other elements are not as important and can be left disabled. In the Advanced settings, there is really only one setting to experiment with. Many people will argue against using the Compatibility Mode feature as it can reduce performance but it has several advantages. Your WordPress installation might work more efficiently with your hosting plan if this is enabled.

Database caching allows WordPress to serve up information without hitting the database by caching information that is regularly accessed. If something has changed in the backend then the plugin will figure this out and serve up the new information. Everything else can be left as default. A word of warning for people on shared hosting, test this feature enable and disable through the General Settings section before finishing your review of the plugin, as it might cause unwanted issues with your site.

However, if your site only uses CSS and Javascript to modify the layouts in a responsive manner there is no requirement for this option. I have seen a few people recommend enabling these options without looking into any possible performance issues. Arbitrarily enabling settings in any plugin is a recipe for a slow and broken site. This is an interesting option to examine at a later stage.

Most people will not use this feature but if you wanted to redirect people coming from referred by Yahoo search engine to one display version of your site and people coming from Google to another you can set up the options here.

Leave disabled for the purposes of this performance review. A future post will explain the various options available. This will bring you to the Credentials page where you need to authorize your account. New Relic is an excellent service that allows you to monitor your website for issues arising in the database, the backend server, the code, plugins or another external service.

January 14, 11 min read When the browser encounters a render blocking resource, it stops downloading the rest of the resources until these critical files are processed. In the meantime, the entire rendering process is put on hold. The browser can safely download them in the background after the initial page render. However, not all resources that the browser deems render blocking are essential for the first paint; it all depends on the individual characteristics of the page. There are best practices you can use to turn these noncritical render blocking resources into non-render blocking ones.

Generate critical CSS and inline it (refer to the point below). WordPress plugins to eliminate render-blocking resources: Autoptimize.

Render-blocking Javascript prevents above-the-fold content on your page from being rendered until the javascript has finished loading.

You can do this by using a faster server, CDN, caching, reducing your DOM size, hosting your fonts locally, and eliminating render-blocking resources. The decision to look this way, was determined by the increasing developing effort to keep up to date with the newest requirements and current best practices which often relate better to newer technologies than JavaServer Faces JSF , the framework we were using at the time. So which of these libraries should we chose? How long will they be supported?

My name is Cory Rylan. When using JavaScript modules we often import with node package paths. When loading JavaScript in the browser, the browser will not know where the package folder is because it is not a relative directory path. When using tools like Webpack or Rollup, they update the paths and bundle this code for us. This is a problem if we want to prototype without any build tools. We can use tools like lit-html and lit-element to provide high-level abstractions. When using lit-element to build Web Components, we typically need a build step. Luckily an upcoming browser feature called import maps are a potential solution to save us from build tooling. Import maps are a new proposed feature for JavaScript modules.

Web Components is an umbrella term for a set of web native APIs that allows developers to create reusable custom elements. We consider Vue and Web Components to be primarily complementary technologies. Vue has excellent support for both consuming and creating custom elements. Whether you are integrating custom elements into an existing Vue application, or using Vue to build and distribute custom elements, you are in good company. Consuming custom elements inside a Vue application largely works the same as using native HTML elements, with a few things to keep in mind:. By default, Vue will attempt to resolve a non-native HTML tag as a registered Vue component before falling back to rendering it as a custom element.

Out of the box, Drupal offers only a single type of validation for fields; required or not required. For most use cases this is fine, however, it can be a little difficult to define your own custom validation logic. If none of the validators meet your requirement, you can write your own by implementing a validator plugin. Because validators are Ctools plugin, they are easy to maintain as each one gets its own file. The module comes with one useful validator which checks if a field value is unique.

Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog

All of these steps are described in the following sections. Note that you should only write code to provide blocks and menu router entries if there is some logic or programming needed to generate the content of the block or page.

Here are the steps:. As an example, assume you want to show the titles of the most recently updated node content items, and you want to show 10 items per page. Here is the code you would need to put into your output-generating function for the block or page:.

Then you write separate functions that tell Drupal how to validate and process form submissions. Creating a form array is just one step in the process of displaying and processing form input. To set up a form in your module, you will need to do the following:.

Each content type also has several settings for comments that affect the comment form, and there are many other examples of configuration options—so be sure to investigate before you start programming.

Generic JavaScript code and files can be added to a form by using the ' attached' property. Drupal core includes the jQuery library, so you can make use of that when writing your JavaScript. Some examples:.

Within this section, the term "field" will always mean an entity field as defined in this section, and any references to database table fields will be clearly noted as such. As of Drupal version 7, Drupal core defines the concept of an entity , which stores data such as content or settings for a Drupal website. Drupal core version 7 defines four main user-visible entity types : node for basic content , taxonomy for classification of content , comment for comments attached to content , and user for user account information.

The Drupal API also allows modules to define additional entity types. Each entity type can have one or more bundles , which are groupings of the items belonging to that entity type. For instance, the bundles of the node and comment entity types are content types , which an administrator can define within the Drupal user interface modules can define them too ; examples of content types are basic pages, news items, blog items, and forum posts.

Fields store additional information, which could be text, numbers, attached files, images, media URLs, or other data, and they can be single- or multiple-valued. Some entity types are not fieldable or do not allow administrators to change their fields; for example, an entity type used by a module for storing settings might define the fields and need to rely on those fields being present, so it would not want a user to be able to change them. Each field has a field type , which defines what type of data the field stores; Drupal core defines several field types including one-line text, formatted long text, and images, and modules can define additional field types.

Drupal core defines the common widgets needed to edit its fields in standard ways, and modules can define their own widgets for their fields or other modules' fields.

This will be a lot less work, because the core Node module includes administrative screens and other functionality, and it will also allow you to use the many add-on modules that work with nodes. One good use case for defining a new entity type is to store groups of settings for a module, which would allow the settings to be internationalized. Another good use case is to define storage for a set of content for a site that needs a completely different permissions system and display mechanism from the Drupal core node entity type, where the additional programming that would be needed to coerce the node entity type into doing what you want would be greater than the programming needed to define a separate entity type.

Also, the page registration process will be different, so the code for that will need to change. In Drupal 7, it is advisable to make use of the contributed Entity API module, since it takes care of many standard operations for you; you may also want to make use of the Entity Construction Kit module.

With that taken care of, to define an entity type whose machine name is myentity , declare the following function in your mymodule. If you are defining an entity type to use for settings, the next step is to attach fields to your entity bundle to store the settings you need.

Both internal-use and content entity types need management pages and forms for creating and editing entity items. There are several functions that you do need to define though:. If you need to attach data to nodes or other entity types, you need to find a field type that stores this type of data. Between Drupal core and contributed modules, there are field types available for most of the common use cases for fielded content plain text, numbers, formatted text, images, media attachments, etc.

Keep in mind that the field type only defines the stored data , while the formatter defines the display of the data and the widget defines the method for data input. So instead of defining a field, you may only need a custom widget or formatter for your use case.

This module validates information submitted on the user registration form. There are some hard-coded checks:.

Validates that a value is a valid email address. The underlying value is cast to a string before being validated. As with most of the other constraints, null and empty strings are considered valid values. This is to allow them to be optional values. If the value is mandatory, a common solution is to combine this constraint with NotBlank. It defines the validation group or groups of this constraint.

When a form is submitted you'll need to check the data input by the user to ensure that it matches certain constraints, and to raise errors when necessary. Is the email address in the proper format? Is the title field long enough?
