Swords of Africa - Congo - African Weapons History

Published
Weapons in Africa come in a great number of amazing varieties throughout African history, especially in the Congo rainforest area. African swords were not only powerful tools of combat but also cool looking works of art as well. Each sword design is both interesting aesthetically and most likely very effective tools for fighting. The blades are typically made of iron, but can be made of other metals as well. The weapons we'll see today are from Central Africa, specifically the country of the Republic of Congo which is one of two countries in Africa called Congo, the other being the Democratic Republic of Congo. These Congo swords are the weapons of various African peoples such as the Teke, Aka, Kwele and more. We will also discuss the Congolese swords from a historical and cultural perspective as well.

This video also focuses on the lives of the Forest People of Central Africa more commonly known as African Pygmies. Due to that fact, we start the show with a satirical skit aimed at the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (A.K.A. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) which in our video is called Chadwick and the Chocolate Factory and that's because in the original book the Oompa-Loompas were African Pygmies.

If you enjoy learning about African history, culture, and art, be sure to stay tuned to the Red Spirit Mask channel. Africa is a big place and has a lot of cool weapons and we have other African weapon videos as well and there's more to come.
