Key Moments from Today's Class:

(04:21) What is Web Design?

When people think of #webdesign, though, they often think of the overall template, the look and feel, the graphics and layout that appear consistently throughout the site. So that design is called a skin, or a theme, or a template. And that's just one component of web design. (04:21)

(5:54) The importance of consistency in digital marketing

When it comes to digital marketing, consistency is key when it comes to digital marketing, consistency is key. What do I mean by that? I mean that in this case with Depend on Dakota brands, the colors are brighter red, black, and a darker red. Well, people are going to see this logo and they're going to recognize

But also we want them to see the color scheme throughout. We want to be consistent with that. Therefore, we're providing a consistent experience on our website. Then if someone jumps from an email or social or a guest blog post that we wrote, they're going to see those same consistent colors. There's no disruption. They feel like they're in the right place.

(09:25) How to get more out of your website

Think of your site like a Swiss Army knife, a multifunction tool that can help you achieve your business goals. The goals depend on your business. But some examples. Do you want to build your company brand? And if you see any of these and they stand out to you, let me know in the questions box. Do you want to build your company brand? Do you want to generate leads? Make sales reengage customers, attract employees, provide customer support.

(14:39) The importance of understanding your website visitors

But we've got to know our audience. If we don't know who we're talking to, how are we going to write the right messaging? How are we going to get them to do what we need them to do? Knowing your audience influences how you'll build your site and ultimately how you'll achieve your goals. The audience impacts everything from the graphic design to the words on the web pages. Your site shouldn't try to be everything to everyone you want to narrow in on your audience, not the

I'll tell you, in all of the years of building websites, those websites that actually got specific or niched down were more successful because they're speaking to that audience. You can't be everything to everybody. Otherwise, you're a mile wide and an inch deep and you're just not giving them enough juice for the squeeze to want to buy from you. A great example or a great practice of what you can do is create a buyer persona. If you haven't heard of creating a buyer persona before, it's really where you take a quiz or kind of start asking yourself questions about your dream customer.

(15:38) What is a buyer persona?

So your buyer persona is your dream customer. It's also known as a marketing avatar. Customer avatar. Basically, we're answering these questions thinking about the person that would go to our website. Call us, walk into our storefront and buy right away. If you can really start defining your buyer persona, you can start thinking about what does that buyer persona want to hear? What should I be posting? What should I be writing? What video should I upload to Youtube? Those are all things that we want to really be considering when we're creating our messaging.

(20:22) The importance of organizing your website

A great website is well organized, even if you don't have a lot of web pages now, eventually you may add more pages. You'll grow over time. The big thing is you want to plan how existing and future content will fit into the framework of your website. So don't be overwhelmed when people see this term. All of a sudden I've seen them live. They're like, what is this? Information architecture, also known as IA, for short, is basically the process of building out a tree for your website.
